When I was a child, my mother worked for the Days Inn Motel as a maid. On any given day, she was blessed with the task of cleaning up 15 to 25 rooms , five to seven days a week.

In the afternoons after school, I would stop by the hotel and help her clean rooms. It was like magic, watching her work around the rooms. She had this cleaning gig down to an art. I once watched her clean a room, bathroom, and dining area in less than 20 minutes, without breaking a sweat.

Most of my younger years were spent learning my mother’s cleaning skills. I didn’t plan on being a maid or cleaning anyone’s home , until I found out that you could become rich cleaning people’s houses. After getting married and having three children, we decided to start a small, part-time house cleaning business, which ballooned into a full-time 24 year business.

Mother never used the cleaners provided by the hotel because she believed the toxic chemical could be harmful to the guests. She would make her own mixtures using peroxide, vinegar, lemon juice , dishwashing liquid, and baking soda to remove any stain she came across.
