The Assassination Arrow

This is very much a "guy book" with plenty of outdoors shoot-'em-up action; I loved it. Being a Tom Clancy/Stephen Hunter fan, I found Smith's style to be consistent but the plot was ingenious, if sometimes far-fetched. This is J. Allen Smith's first effort is very worthwhile, I sat up late to finish it and was not at all disappointed. His references to God and faith are not heavy handed; rather they are realistic in that characters in trouble reach out to the Almighty for help and comfort, honestly and sincerely, and offer thanks when help is given - just as most of us do. This guy is terrific and I can't wait for the next book! ~ Samuel S. Holmes

Book Description:

Clovis had put the arrow exactly where he intended. Without hesitation, he eased out of the cleft of the cliff that he had used to conceal himself and where he had been waiting. He has a story to tell and one that needed to be told, but how could he prove his story was true? If he cannot survive, the truth about killing Vice President Peterson may never be known.

About the Author:

J. ALLAN SMITH was raised in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and Montana where he developed a passion for the mountains. As a youth, he spent every possible opportunity hunting, fishing, or trapping, but he also had aspirations to become a preacher. He followed that dream to Texas where he earned his B.S. Degree in Secondary Education from Lubbock Christian University in 1986. Since then he has also earned his Masters Degree in Education and a Masters Degree in Communication.

Now he and his wife Vicky live in the log house they built on a small farm in Middle Tennessee. Together they enjoy hunting, fishing, backpacking, horseback riding and relaxing on the front porch. Here you can often find him watching the deer and turkey feeding in the front pasture, visiting with friends, reading The Word, and, of course, writing.

Missing Airplane: Children’s Story

image (1)

UK USA CDN AU

"The Missing Airplane", a children's book, is based on the still missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. It has been missing for 10 months. I have visited the region on several occasions and so I am somewhat familiar with the cultures and most importantly, the face.

My daughter was in Kuala Lumpur visiting her aunt when the Malaysian flight went missing and eventually made her way to Singapore, via train, to return to Los Angeles. I expected the flight to be found on some remote island with crew and passengers safe, and stopped short of ending the book in that manner with a different title.

However, as it dragged on and on, I changed while leaning on hope. I spent Christmas in Singapore last week and not once did I think about the missing Malaysian flight, as I was caught up in the rapture of the holiday spirit.

Last Sunday, like so many across the globe, I was shocked, frighten and numb upon learning that another flight, AirAsia Flight QZ8501 went missing. I have flown the airlines several times and have always found the crew to be cheerful and kind. I can only hold on to hope also for all.

Last Light Falling

Last Light Falling: The Covenant, Book I

Guest post by J. E. Plemons

Last Light Falling - The covenant, is the first of a four book series where tragedy meets destiny. This graphic and raw character driven story focuses on the trials and tribulations of Arena and Gabriel power, twins born into a world of cruel and relentless tragedy where nations have fallen, economies have collapsed, and half the world's population has been wiped from the earth.

Arena and Gabe struggle to find any hope in their future after losing their parents when they were nine, but living with a loving foster family has eased some of that pain. It's not until they receive a special letter on their fifteenth birthday, that history will forever change. They will soon discover the secrets behind their destiny from a priest, who has vowed to protect them since birth, and sending them on an improbable journey that will most likely end in death.

The prophecy of the end is near and it's up to Gabriel and Arena to help prepare the world's demise by the wrath of God. Souls will rest in the providence of these ordinary twins put in an extraordinary situation, but when fate chooses them, they will have to accept their destiny changing their lives forever.

5* reviews
"Not since Stephen King’s "The Stand" has such an enthralling apocalyptic thriller with a good versus evil theme graced the bookstores. J.E. Plemons introduces us to Arena Power, a fifteen year-old orphan who braves a harsh, new world in this first installment of what promises to be an addictive new series. Best of all, this is a full-length novel rather than the 40-page snippet that some authors try to pass of as a "book" in a series. Not only was I entertained with a rich and imaginative story that showcased top-notch writing, I did not feel cheated when I finished." - Christopher Gill

"The details included in so many different events takes incredible research or a very expansive background on the author’s part. Due to the brilliant realistic events that unfold, this story has a tendency of staying in your mind long after you finish it, which is a good thing."
- Scintilate

"Plemons dynamic representation of end times is captivating and thrilling. The characters are fully developed with fragilities and strengths. Their dialogue is natural and flowing drawing you deep into their thoughts and personalities. The scenery builds up around you allowing for full immersion into the story. The mystery, suspense, faith, hope, war and love build to an unforgettable climax. I cannot wait for more. I highly recommend it!" - Ally McMahon

"As a life-time reader you go through a great number of books, even from a very early age. Over the years you start to develop unique tastes and cravings that not every author can provide. You also learn many common threads (some people call them tropes or clichés) that the vast majority of authors repeat. And then... then you have books like this one, that surpass your every expectation." - Mo Birch

The May- December Twist

The May December Twist

The May- December Twist

Loved this book because I could totally relate to it – “"I am a woman of "a certain age" who is using the internet to find my match and found this book to be so true to life...I laughed and I cried and found the friendships to be spot on. I look forward to reading more books about "The Four". ~ Review by Laughingspirit

Guest Article by Romney Humphrey

Allie Dunlop, a fifty-year-old divorcee, is coerced by her three closest friends into online dating with age-appropriate contenders. Despite finding David, the “perfect match” via a dating site (Why does she always feel sleepy when she kisses him?), she finds herself intrigued with Jameson, a successful entrepreneur volunteering at her non-profit. He is smart, wildly attractive and feels like a soul mate. The problem? He’s twenty-five.

Complications are legion. Her friends can’t understand why Allie would consider Jameson. Why won’t she stay with the perfectly suitable David? And, her twenty-one year old twin sons might have a problem with her dating someone four years older than they.

Jameson, an 'old soul', introduces Allie to Kate, a charming four-year-old he has taken under his wing, and Arthur, another friend, in his eighties and a beguiling personality. Clearly, this is not your typical twenty-five year old man.

The book is also a portrait of the role of friendship; Allie’s friends, (The Four) have always been involved in her life decisions. The dynamic has worked historically for the group. If Allie succumbs to the pull of Jameson, will that also jeopardize the core of her bond with The Four? Jo, one of the group, proves to be a less than stellar member.

The audience for this book are women forty through seventy. It has been read and discussed by book clubs in this demographic. The response has been enthusiastic. One club spent an hour debating whether Jo should stay rejected by the group after a personal betrayal. Readers love the idea of Twenty, Allie's non-profit. There has been whole hearted buy-in of the romance between Jameson and Allie.

Excerpts from a July Kirkus Review: "In a twist on the typical May/December romance, Humphrey’s new chick-lit is a romping good time. Full of peppy dialogue and engaging characters, Humphrey’s novel is a bubbly read that stays fresh and fun. Her subtle exploration of the shifting dynamics of The Four is well-done, perfectly capturing the complexities and beauty of female friendships. Allie is a relatable heroine, foundering with insecurity yet capable of rising to meet even the toughest challenges."

The Curse Of Christ

The Curse of Christ by JS Ortega

“Perhaps JS Ortega is a new Dan Brown” ~ Pandora Magazine

Book Description:

In 1532, in the French town of Chambery, an attempt to steal the Holy Shroud resulted in a tragic accident which nearly caused it to be destroyed in a fire.

In 1772, a man connected to the attempted robbery was helped to escape from the catacombs of Vatican City where he was being held captive.

In the present day, the professor of history Faustino Rovira disappears from Madrid’s Universidad Complutense without a trace, but his friend and fellow professor Mario Faberti discovers the secret which connects his friend to the man who, centuries ago, tried to get hold of the Holy Shroud.

A secret which the Vatican will never allow to be revealed.

Review by leyendoycatando.blogspot.com.es

“This book has already made the best of the year list. I read it in three days and just couldn’t put it down; it has taken hours off my sleep.

The narrative is exquisite, the characters unique; Ambrosse inspires so much peace and goodness that it makes me want to be a better person. I love the portrait of Jesus which is made in the book; some of Ambrosse’s sentences when he remembers the time he spent with him are most inspiring. The author could have overdone this, but the elegance and prudency with which he describes it are worth mentioning.

As soon as you enter the story you become a close observer. You can feel the cobblestones of Verona’s streets under your feet, the aroma of coffee, the sound of distant footsteps in the lonely streets and the cold wind on arriving at the lonely monastery.

There are some chronological leaps backwards and forwards but you never get lost. It is amazing how such distant dates (years 1, 1532, 1772 and the present date) can be linked together in such perfect synchrony.

I think that the book is very well written and is worth reading, so I definitely recommend it, particularly if you like stories that revolve around religion”.
