2076: A Revolutionary Tale” - All Systems Have Failed

Dec 26th to 30th!

In writing 2076 I tried to imagine a world where the mega-wealthy--the 0.1%-- had gotten everything they paid for; a world of haves and have-nots where the truth no longer mattered. The result was a novel about a future that is closer than we think. ~ Stephen Mitchell

Question: What inspired you to write "A Cure To Die For?"

Stephen Mitchell:

  • It breaks my heart to see how illness is used and manipulated by Big Pharma for monetary gain. It frightens me to see how pharmaceutical advertising is used to glamorize and normalize the use of prescription drugs. It distresses me to think of the consequences of relying on a for-profit industry for our health and well-being.
  • Within the context of a thrilling and exciting story, I wanted to dramatize how politicians from both parties, with the help of the news media, have sold the American people out to Big Pharma. In the story, I tried to imagine the lengths to which an unregulated drug industry would go to keep a drug that cured cancer off the market if the drug threatened to make all their other drugs obsolete.

From 2076: A Revolutionary Tale” - All Systems Have Failed

Question: What is there about your novel that offers hope for the future?

Stephen Mitchell: 2076 is about rebirth--a spring of societal regeneration after a winter of human failure. To create new growth, a forest sometimes has to burn. Mother Nature has lost all patience with the human species and is boiling mad. Her body language says it all. A change is coming and when she hits the reset button, it's going to be every dinosaur for himself. Any survivors will have to evolve.
