I have to say that this book is what hooked me for the Demon Isle Witches series. The battles they wage both within and out, the love they share and the love they can't, the secrets they must keep. I also enjoyed not having to skip pages for bedroom scenes. If you prefer spicier, check out her Wicked Good Witches series. I hope y'all enjoy this series as much as I do. ~ Review by ced1976

Dark & Stormy

Dark and Stormy SM

Dark & Stormy on Amazon

The characters are very believable and very nicely developed. With the highly detailed descriptions, I easily imagined myself there - in the action. The storyline has an impressive and smooth flowing plot… ~ Review by Catherine M. Edwards about Book One in the Series - Dark Dreams (Dark Tales Series Book 1)
Book Description:
A powerful blizzard blowing in from the mountains spells trouble for Anna, a Halfling, Redbeard, a dwarf, and Leena, a feisty wood elf. Caught by surprise and lacking even the most basic supplies and with a pack of hungry wolves closing in, the three friends must try and reach the safety and warmth of their destination without hope of rescue. They soon learn that they must work together and trust each other in order to survive, or else perish in the harsh, snow-covered wilderness.
Dark & Stormy is an adventurous novella of the sword and sorcery Dark Tales Series.
Review by Rachel Bostwick about Dark Realms (Dark Tales Series Book 4) in the Series –  If you enjoy stories that hearken to the early days of Dungeons and Dragons, if you love magic and halfings and adventure, or if you know a young teen who does, I highly recommend this story.

Magical Effects

Bookcover1

magicaemathematica.com

This unknown writer just needs a shot to get the message out. That anyone can be the missing variable. The missing variable is the one who can change the world...but here is the twist: everyone can be the missing variable...not just a single ONE like Neo in the Matrix or Harry Potter or many other stories that focus solely on ONE person being special and unique. All kids are special and unique and that is just one of his concepts he is trying to bring to the younger generation. ~ Excerpt of review by Eman

Forget Harry Potter. New Novel Based On Magic & Math Seek To Inspire Girls In STEM ~ excerpt of article on girltalkhq.com

What is the missing variable?

Book13D1

Libellus de Numeros

UK  USA CDN  AU

An excellent book, I love a world where maths and latin is magic. It can seem that way and this will certainly help my son improve his understanding and the way he thinks about mathematics. Latin the basis of grammar, another great learning tool and this book helps promote it, the story itself follows a young girl as she is transported to a world and helps the city defend against the evil wizards set on its destruction. The book is easy to follow and allows children to learn about growing up, as well as teaching them the value of learning. Five stars. ~ Review by Nic Thomas

On the Continent of Origin, deep in the deserts of the High Heat, rises one of the last remaining Citadels of the humans. Defiant and well-defended, it is known as Sol. And in this epic third installment of the Guardians of Illyria series, it will be the stage for one of the greatest conflicts yet waged between the oppressive forces of Illyria and the rebel human race.

Now 14 years old, Ionikus Reaves, Thunder Lord of the Endari, is plagued by the darkness of his past and future. His powers grow stronger by the day, as do the doubts in his plans for revenge. But when the Endari scheme to forge an alliance with an unlikely foe—the humans of Sol—Ion must set aside his uncertainties. One misstep and his allies could become his enemies, his ultimate plan never come fruition.

Lady Lillian of Illyria has only recently settled into her new position amongst the pantheon she long feared and respected. But soon, she finds her elven blood a problem for the pureblooded gods of Illyria. On top of navigating their foreign customs, backstabbing, and searing whispers, she must also endure their wrath…and the dark secrets behind the fall of the previous pantheon.

Review by Nocturnus about the 1st book in the series ~The Iron-Jawed Boy Book 1 ~ Future Fantasy
This book was pure awesomeness! I found it very engaging and unique. The world was loosely based on a far future of an alternate Earth where we are the bad guys and supernatural element callers and living Gods roam. We destroyed the world by using up all the resources and polluting indiscriminately so the Gods were forced to come out of seclusion to clean up our mess and restore some semblance of Balance. These societies are at constant war with each other.

Quest of a Young Wizard

Bramwell Chronicles

First five chapters are free at bramwellchronicles.com/

Book Review:

What an incredible journey! I started reading the series when I downloaded my first 5 chapters free from S.L. Jones' homepage www.bramwellchronicles.com and I haven't put the book down! I am so excited to see what unfolds in this non stop action packed fantasy thriller! I asked myself "Where can I find a good fantasy book about witches, wizards, and magic that could keep me as hooked as the Harry Potter series or even Lord of the Rings?" and I have found it! This is a great new book for anyone from any age!

"Quest of a Young Wizard" is the first book in the series of the Eric Bramwell Adventures. There is already a second book out as well titled, "Quest for the Life Essence" I'm so glad that I Let Eric become a part of my family when I finally decided to join in on the young Wizard's plights. I have shared in Eric's defeats and conquests as he learned of his destiny. The world from which Eric lives unfolds and comes to life with in the pages of this book of intrigue and adventure. Only when Eric became aware of his past did he truly learn of who he really was and what power he held within his soul.

After I am finished with the first in the series I look forward to finding out what happens next in his journey. I needed a book like Harry Potter to satisfy my craving for a world of adventure and magic! I found out this is such a good book for kids that after I finish my first in this amazing book series I will pass the adventure along to my young ones to keep the legend alive! S.L. Jones is a powerful writer and she really brings the pages alive with each turn!

Your kind doesn’t belong here.

Lodestone (Witch-Hunt)

Lodestone: Book 1 Witch-Hunt

He scrutinized me for a long time. “Your kind doesn’t belong here. You upset the natural balance. I can’t grant you peace, but … if you have the will, I can give you vengeance.”

Me ears pricked up like a fighting dog’s. “Vengeance?”

His next words insinuated themselves inside me like a burning cancer. “Wouldn’t you like revenge on the witches?”

Hunger for retribution overwhelmed me senses, and I couldn’t restrain the eagerness in me tone. I licked me lips and begged, “How?”

He extended a hoof to me. “If you want to know, then come with me.”

Later, I would wish I hadn’t done what I did next, but I reached out and took his hoof, vowing that if I couldn’t have Adorabelle back, then vengeance would do.

As a child I had a ferocious imagination and immersed myself in creating stories and poems. One birthday I begged for a chemistry set, sensing the promise of adventure from the glittering vials of copper sulphate and salt.” Wendy Scott

An amazing read! ~ K. Kattenberg
"Absolutely loved the book, I couldn't put it down once I started. The characters are believable (and lovable.)The story flows easily but with unexpected twists that carries you along with it. I can't wait to read more from this author and more of Sabrina's tale."

Strange Hunting

Strange Hunting

Nailed it! ~ Review by Penny. “As I finished the first chapter of this book, I looked over at my husband and said, “This is freaking cool, you’ll want to read it when I’m done.” Little did I know that this book would grip me tight and I would finish reading it at about 4 am the next morning. I love supernatural tales, and this book does not disappoint. The writer has a real knack for storytelling, and the editor and formatter did a great job with it. I will be recommending it to my book club, and pretty much everyone else I know. Really, it’s like sci-fi buttah.”

From the Author – what Dave Robertson says about the story…

There is still magic in the world. There are still blank spots on the map, still places where people follow age old rituals and superstitions.

Berk Willis has been to these places. He has seen things that cannot be explained and found creatures that most people would never believe. In his travels he has been all over the world: from the dark forests of Finland and an ancient graveyard in Norway to the Jungles of South America and the remote reaches of Africa. He has met odd characters, seen mysterious rituals, and faced strange monsters.

The world is not always the safe, routine place we would like it to be. Fearsome beasts still roam primeval jungles. Dark creatures still lurk in distant shadows.

Join Berk Willis as he hunts for the strange, the mysterious, and the unexplained.

Excerpt (Kindle Locations 29-41) –

What the Main character has to say!

Intro
I never thought I’d write a book about my travels. I always kept a journal, but it was just for my own memories. Years after most of these strange hunts, a few people convinced me to put it all down in book form. You’ll notice that some place names have intentionally been left out. A lot of people don’t want their town to be associated with deadly creatures, for a lot of reasons. Otherwise, I’ve retold events as accurately as possible.

So, you’re wondering what’s in the book. Yes, there are diverse people, exotic places, and peculiar beasts . My strange hunts took me to some pretty amazing places: wild Scandinavian forests, African jungles, remote European villages, even the great Sahara desert. I have met tribesmen, soldiers, princes, and spies. I’ve feasted with gypsies and spent plenty of nights in graveyards. I hunted legendary predators, demons, even some zoological remnants left over from the days of dinosaurs. I wanted to explore, to see new places and to go places other people never did. I hunted these creatures because I felt I was good at it, a good use of skills I had. I also got to explore some of the blank spots on the world’s maps, and I found out that there is still magic in the world.

I got to see a side of the world that people rarely see, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything. This book will give you a glimpse of that world. I hope you find it interesting. - Berk Willis

The Star Of Jolanest

The Star of Jolanest

I love the hidden references to some of my favorite movies. Also, I love how her characters have such silly quirks...you can visualize them and that makes the book come to life!
~Review by  Anonymous on Barnes & Noble

What the story is about: (book description on Barnes & Noble)

Jarby is in love. He wants to marry the charming but penniless barmaid who works at his uncle's inn, but his uncle won't tolerate True Love without a matching dowry.

So Jarby follows a tattered map to the fabled Star of Jolanest, a lost treasure that will provide all the dowry his beloved barmaid could want. Riding his randy dragonhorse, carrying his disenchanted sword and accompanied by an accident-prone stableboy (Eramus Tate the Fourth, aka Poke) Jarby sets off on a journey dogged by surprises. Like his pesky magical abilities.

Two-not-quite-human barbarian maidens who want him for themselves. The fact that he's actually of the deposed and hunted royal family of distant Melvia. And then there's the price on his head--in THE STAR OF JOLANEST.

*****
...the novel is a wonderful romp full of fantastical creatures, almost impossible situations, and a sprinkling of dry wit over a mound of slap-stick comedy. At times it actually moves a bit too fast, running lightly over descriptions of places and characters, leaving their images tantalizingly vague. That being said, the story and characters were interesting enough to keep my attention from the first page to the last. All in all, a very solid novel.

Chasing Pretty

Chasing Pretty

What a beautiful cover! This is a newly released paranormal romance for young adults. When reading the reviews, there was one that described the story perfectly. I am also including a really juicy excerpt so keep reading...

Review by L. Attrib - Well Worth The Chase

"This was a very pleasant surprise. After a slightly slow start it soon developed into a compelling read. Told from the point of view of 17 year old, high school student Ashlyn her problems at first seem ones to envy - a flawless beauty, a limitless credit card, a smart Lexus to drive to a school where they don't mind she skips endless classes and goes out to lunch on lobster. It seems like material girl heaven.

Unfortunately generous Daddy is so busy working as to be invisible, Mother is a manipulative drunk, her ex-boyfriend and his football team friends are macho louts, her looks make the other girls at school bully her, the school counselor is ineffectual, her private therapist just about keeps her ticking over. Okay, now resist the temptation to shout 'Just sort yourself out, girl!' - she's a teenager and if she doesn't seem to deal with her problems particularly well it's because adolescence is a different world. Chasing Pretty is a novel aimed at young adults and my guess is the character and the story will appeal to droves of them. They'll certainly find enough to entertain them. Especially after new boy Zeus arrives at school to provide a will-they won't-they romantic interest. Zeus comes from a family of hippies and his bohemian mother knows a lot about magic. The accidental conjuring of an ideal boyfriend for Ashlyn is the most underplayed part of the story - everyone oddly takes this miraculous appearance for granted, but then this is the age of Harry Potter.

It doesn't stop at high-school angst, romance and magic though, the latter part of the story develops into a fast-paced thriller that traps Ashlyn in mortal danger. In summary there's something for everyone and though it's a 'Young adult' I suspect anyone young in spirit will find this well-plotted and richly charactered book a hugely entertaining read."

Excerpt of a review by Manchester - Unique and eloquent
I read about a quarter of this before I had to go to work, and I couldn't stop thinking about how the story was going to play out while I was there; needless to say, I got back to reading it as soon as I got home.
Excerpt: (Kindle Location 238-250).
I had already done my base, eyes and cheeks. Now I was using a burgundy pencil to draw two dots at the peaks of my upper lip. Connecting the dots, I tried to be careful not to go outside the natural line but to go to the outermost edge to make them look fuller, plumper. But my concentration shifted away from applying makeup to a knife slicing across my cheeks. A gash deep enough to need stitches. A scar would form, a long awkward jagged looking thing.

Or I could break my nose.

All it would take is a fall down the stairs. No, too risky. Maybe a headbutt to a cement wall, crunching the bone, creating the slightest turn in the bridge, marring the perfection. So when people looked at me, they would actually see me. Not the perfect mask, that covered up who I really was. Did I even know who I was? There's only one way to find out. Once again my imagination turned to knives and blood and scars.

Then I took a deep breath and shut my eyes. I tried to remember the advice Dr. Ingles had given me . Three deep breaths. In. Out. Repeat.

My beauty is a gift not a curse. My beauty is a gift not a curse.
